Vila Nova de Gaia is the latest luxury destination in Porto, with the multiplication of five-star real estate and hotels. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least five hotels with these characteristics have debuted and new openings are on the way.
The breathtaking view of Porto weighs in on this onslaught, but it is not the justification for the race to the other side of the Douro river. Gaia has more free space to build and buildings to rehabilitate than Porto, while the city council is betting on a renovation strategy aimed at tourism.
The D.Luís I bridge is crossed on foot in 5/10 minutes, leading to Cais de Gaia and the port wine cellars, which attract visitors.
